Pears

We finally grow hundreds of pears on the pear tree that the squirrels left alone. They barely touched them! I tried one that was delicious a few weeks ago but decided to wait a few more weeks to make sure they were completely ripe before I picked them. Apparently I waited to long because the squirrels found them and took almost all of them! I am down to a handful. I had such high hopes for these pears. (I guess the squirrels did too)

I believe my thumbs have a hint of green.

More cucumbers are headed my way. We are thinking about making more pickles (and salad) I will let you know how they turn out.

Look at the size of these cantaloupe.

This is my cantaloupe! So delicious and all natural. Doesn't get any better then this.

Happy Anniversary

From Matt for our 11 years.

Dear Brother

Sometimes I hear a laugh that makes my heart stop....because I think its you.
Sometimes I hear a voice that makes me turn on my heals....because I think its you.
Sometimes I hear your song on the radio and I know that you are with me.
Happy birthday dear brother. You are still missed.....

And here is the end to a day of cooking......

Matts famous ribs, a veggie medley, and some bountiful beer bread.

Salsa Time

We have decided to try canning. First up...salsa. Its pretty good if I do say so myself. Kay and I only wanted regular salsa but Matt wanted a couple of jars with black beans and corn. Next thing I want to try is jelly (or preserves) maybe some apple butter. if you happen to know of some easy recipes send them my way.

Matt made the pickles with all of the cucumbers the garden has been producing.

Just call me Susie Home-Maker

Kaylee helped me make the wonderful beer bread.

Something came over me this morning, maybe it was posting the pictures from my garden that inspired me on how marvelous God is in that he provided us with all things necessary to nourish ourselves. Maybe my maternal instinct is kicking in. Maybe its a combination of all. I don't know but the benefits of it sure are yummy!

Gardening in July

My garden has done quite well in the cucumber and bell pepper department. The cantaloupes are growing also but we haven't been able to try one yet.
The tomatoes and onions have done nothing. (not even on my Topsy Turvey)
The cucumbers are huge! You have to cut the bitter off but other then that they are delicious!
